Tennessee Regulatory Authority (TRA) Information
What is a Regulatory Authority (RA)?
A regulatory authority (RA) is generally a regulatory body at the state level responsible for regulating utilities that
provide service within a state. The commission is comprised of either state-elected or state-appointed officials. These members
regulate all electric, gas, water, cable and telephone retail in many states, and are also generally responsible for ensuring that
utilities are responsive to customers' needs and service requests, and that service is both adequate and reliable.
How Tennessee RA describes itself:
The mission of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority is to promote the public interest by balancing the interests of utility consumers and providers while facilitating the transition to a more competitive environment.
